TNTP Layla Avila Mentoring Program
Details & Time Commitment
We believe in the powerful impact mentoring can have on an individual’s professional growth and experience at TNTP. The TNTP Layla Avila Mentoring Program is designed to provide staff with career development, connections, and networking opportunities to invest in staff experience through increasing belonging and inclusion at TNTP. We believe that everyone has something to give, and everyone has something to learn.
Mentor & Mentee Roles
With the goal of creating the best experience for mentors and mentees, we want staff to be fully committed to their mentoring connection. Therefore, staff will only be in one mentoring connection at a time, either as a mentor or mentee.
How is a mentor different than a Manager?
The TNTP Layla Avila Mentoring Program is a professional development offering for staff. A mentor is someone you choose, based on shared qualities, interests, etc. In addition to a Manager, a mentor can be a new advocate or thought partner in the areas you want to develop or work towards. Mentoring connections are not evaluative for either mentors or mentees. The connection is intentionally separate from day-to-day work and focuses on development and connections more broadly. Mentoring connections can also expose staff to new parts of the organization, new strands of work, and to new working styles.
Connection Period
Connection period duration is six months. At the end of the six-month period, all connections will end, and a new group of mentors and mentees will be signed-up and connected. While all connections will formally conclude at the end of the six months, we recognize that strong mentoring relationships often create life-long connections that continue beyond the formal program and platform.
Also, we understand that sometimes matches end up not being a good fit for any number of reasons. While our goal is for the majority of the matches to maintain their connection for the duration of the six months, mentors and mentees will have the ability to end the connection before the conclusion of the six months. However, that mentor and mentee will need to wait until the next cycle to match with a new connection.
The program will provide connection plans for the mentor and mentee, which will guide the mentorship and provide resources for meetings.
Time Commitment
Our estimated time commitment for the duration of the six-month connection period, for both mentors and mentees, is a total of 20 hours over the six months.
-
Month 1: Estimated 5 hours for set-up, preparations, a one-hour call, and completing tasks.
- Months 2 through 6: Estimated 3 hours each month for preparation, a one-hour call, and completing tasks.
If mutually desired, mentors and mentees many spend more than the 20 hours.
Program
The mentoring program is intended to provide career development, social connection, and networking to boost staff engagement, retention, and feelings of inclusion and belonging at TNTP.
Note: TNTP is an equal employment opportunity employer committed to maintaining a non-discriminatory work environment. Option to Share Identity-related Information
When joining the TNTP Layla Avila Mentoring Program, staff (both mentors and mentees) will have the option to self-identify for various identity-related profile fields, including race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual identity, pronouns. Our goal in allowing staff to provide this voluntary information is to enable mentees to request a mentor of the same racial identity, gender identity, and/or sexual identity.
- By providing this voluntary information in Chronus, other TNTP mentors/mentees will be able to view the information you provide.
- Disclosed voluntary information will only be used for program related purposes and will not be shared beyond program admin and participants.
- Participants should respect colleagues’ privacy and not share info they learn during program with anyone outside the program.
- Sharing this identity information is strictly voluntary and is not required for participation in the mentoring program. Staff can opt to not disclose and this will have no effect on their participation in the program.
